What lies ahead in darkness there?
What goals and triumphs planned with care,
Reaching and taking dreams untried,
Then turning back unsatisfied.
Wretched man whose searching n’er ends
For something better,life never sends.
Always grasping tomorrow,ever so fast
To realize tomorrow now lies in the past.
For life has dealt you what it deals to all men
Who cast their hopes on a world bruised by sin.
One half reaching forward to temporal things,
One half reaching backward to unfulfilled dreams,
Eyes dim, heart slow, a victim in a snare.
To bring God this offering somehow isn’t fair,
Yet He will accept it, mercy praises be sung.
How much greater the blessing had you done it while young.
